This 4" Button Fern (Pellaea rotundifolia) is perfect for amphibian and reptile BioActive Terrariums.

This low-growing, dense, evergreen fern gets its name from its leaves that look like tiny buttons.

With Pets:  It is pet safe and will make a wonderful hiding place for your rainforest reptiles and amphibians. When planting in your animal's enclosure we recommend pairing it with our BioActive Supply Rainforest Substrate. Our substrate contains 14 all-natural ingredients that will provide all of the organic materials that will jump-start this plant and give it all the nutrients it needs, along with providing what is needed to the clean-up crew.

Native To: This fern originally comes from New Zealand and Australia where it lives in humid woodlands or wet limestone cliffs.

Lighting: This fern will not thrive in direct sunlight and prefers medium light (light shade).

Hydration: This fern likes to live in humid conditions of 40-75%. Making sure to mist your fern when you mist your animal will provide the humidity needed. Button ferns do not like their roots to get soggy, but they do like to be damp. I find that when the top layer of substrate is dry- it's time to water it, as they have a shallow root system. When this plant gets very dry it will have a hard time coming back.

Propagation: This fern is easily divided to propagate.

Important note:  If you will be using this plant in a vivarium setting with animals, we recommend that all of the soil the plant comes with being washed off prior to placing the new plant in your vivarium. That way you will not accidentally bring any unwanted invertebrates into your setup.

Cold Weather: If you live where the weather will be cold and frosty upon arrival, we recommend contacting us in advance so we can add a heat pack to your shipment. If you choose not to add the heat pack and your plant arrives damaged from the weather, no refund will be given.
